On one hand, *Spaceballs* mercilessly spoofs everything from *Star Trek: The Motion Picture* and *Battlestar Galactica* to anything else falling under the sci-fi or fantasy banners. At the same time, you feel the deep love Mel Brooks holds for the genre in every scene—which is a major reason why the film is so incredibly funny.
Brooks wields the laser-scepter both behind and in front of the camera, shining in a dual role as Yogurt and President Skroob. He is supported by a cast that includes Rick Moranis (*Little Shop of Horrors*), John Candy (*Uncle Buck*), Bill Pullman (*Independence Day*), and Daphne Zuniga (*Melrose Place*).
