In 1932, following a long career in organized crime, the twins Smoke and Stack (both played by Michael B. Jordan!) retire from Chicago to rural Mississippi to make a fresh start in their hometown. They open a bar in an old barn that serves bootleg alcohol to the black community who can certainly use a protected space of its own, given the pervasive discrimination and ever-present terror of the Ku Klux Klan. Yet then an entirely different threat makes itself known. The new movie by Ryan Coogler (BLACK PANTHER) is a magnificent blend of sanguineous action film and subversive horror thriller.
